WEEKDAY CLASSES
Beginner Group

Beginners are learning new vocabulary and practicing using it.

Intermediate Group

Group 2 is for low and high intermediate English Language Learners. English Language Learners who can communicate in conversations in full sentences but with frequent grammar mistakes and vocabulary gaps.

Class time will primarily focus on volunteer-facilitated English Language Learner discussions in pairs using active listening about various topics. Volunteers will introduce topics and help explain the vocabulary and questions and model answers and offer direct correction often on repeated mistakes. As we infuse more of a Peace Education focus into our program, we will experiment this year with focusing on values and story-telling activities.

Advanced Group

Group 3 is for advanced English Language Learners who can engage in extended conversations about a wide variety of topics but with some grammar mistakes and vocabulary gaps.

Class time will primarily focus on helping English Language Learners build American cultural language awareness as in the study of idioms, expressions, current events, and cultural events. Exploration and discussion of American cultures should be done in small groups with the frequent use of active listening by both volunteers and members, This year we will be more intentional about infusing Peace Education into the class activities.

SUNDAY MORNING ONE-ON-ONE

Come to the Intown Coffeehouse on Sunday mornings to practice and grow in cross-cultural communication through one-on-one conversations as part of International Education Peace Volunteers cultural learning programming. We try to pair one American with one person from another country, for mutual learning. This is not a class but it is very helpful for intermediate and advanced English language learners.
